History of Lake Bob Sandlin State Park

Nestled in the heart of East Texas, Lake Bob Sandlin State Park offers a rich history and natural beauty. The lake, a reservoir on Big Cypress Creek, was formed in 1977 with the construction of Fort Sherman Dam. The goal was to supply water and power to the area. The lake was named after Bob Sandlin, president of the Titus County Fresh Water Supply District No. 1 which still operates the lake today. It covers an area of 9,004 acres with 75 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 65 feet. The subsequent development of the state park allowed public access to this beautiful resource, preserving the natural landscape while offering a variety of recreational opportunities.
