Exploring the Great Outdoors and enjoying nature are some of the best things to do in Mt. Pleasant TX. If you want to experience East Texas scenery and wildlife, then we suggest visiting Daingerfield State Park near our RV resort! Here’s everything you need to know before you go:

Location & History

Daingerfield State Park in Texas is located about 20 miles southeast of Mount Pleasant, and less than 30 minutes from Twin Lakes RV Resort! The Civilian Conservation Corps, created by FDR in the 1930s, built the park, including the unique concrete building with the 8-pointed star details that now serves as the recreation hall and park store.

Entrance Fee & Hours

Daingerfield State Park

The entrance fee for Daingerfield State Park is $4 for adults. Kids 12 years old and under are free. You can make a reservation online or call (512) 389-8900 to reserve a day pass in advance. While you may be able to purchase a pass at the park when you arrive, availability may sell out during popular times of the year, so we recommend purchasing your day pass early. The park gates open daily at 6 AM and close at 10 PM.

Things to Do

Water Activities: This beautiful park is centered around a massive 80-acre lake, Little Pine Lake, where you can rent boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. You can also bring your own boat and spend the day touring the lake, soaking up the sun, and fishing from the boat!

Fishing: The Daingerfield State Park lake is stocked with many different types of fish, including crappie, bass, catfish, and perch. There’s a fishing pier and boat ramp, and you can purchase bait and worms on site if you forget to bring your own. A fishing license is not required to fish here.

Hiking: Some of the best hiking near Mount Pleasant TX can be found at Daingerfield State Park trails among the peaceful Pineywoods. The Rustling Leaves Trail is a relatively easy 2.4-mile loop around the lake; if you’re up for more of a challenge, take the short but steep Mountain View Trail to reach the pine-covered bluffs that mark the highest point in the park.

Wildlife Viewing: As you hike, keep an eye out for armadillos, white-tailed deer, beaver, squirrels, and rabbits; large pileated woodpeckers, painted buntings, and yellow-bellied sapsuckers are popular in the “Cathedral of the Trees” surrounding Little Pine Lake. Herons and ducks are often sighted, as well as turtles and lizards.
